Help: Finding a report

What this site includes

This site provides information about public opinion research reports contracted by Government of Canada departments and agencies since August 1, 2006. It covers all public opinion research reports contracted after that date and deposited with Library and Archives Canada under the provisions of the Federal Accountability Act.

The Federal Accountability Act requires federal departments and agencies to send Library and Archives Canada a written report of all public opinion research contracts within six months after completion of the data collection for that research. Departments also provide executive summaries of those reports for inclusion on this site.

The executive summaries and reports available from this site are provided in the form in which they were submitted to Library and Archives Canada by the department or agency that contracted the research.

Searching

You can search for information on public opinion research reports by:

  • name of the contracting department;
  • name of the contractor;
  • keywords appearing in the title of the report;
  • the year in which the report was issued; and
  • the registration number ("POR" number) assigned to the report by PWGSC.

You can also use any combination of those search elements.

Click on the "Submit" button to start the search.

Example:

  • Enter "Defence" in the search box for "Department name" and select "2007" from the menu in the search box for "Year".
  • Click on "Submit".
  • The search will retrieve information on public opinion research reports completed for the Department of National Defence in 2007.

Search results

Basic citation information will be displayed for each report included in the search results.

If several items are included in the search results, you can use the "Sort by" menu in the upper right section of the results page to sort the results alphabetically by department, contractor, or title, or chronologically by the year in which the report was completed.

Executive summaries

Immediately below the citation information for each report, there is a link to the executive summary for that report. By clicking on "View executive summary", you will be taken to a copy of the summary stored in the electronic collection of Library and Archives Canada.

Questions about a report

Questions about the content of a report, or the context for a specific public opinion research contract, should be referred to the department that issued the contract for that research. Contact information for the department should appear in the executive summaries and on the cover or title page of the report.

If the contact information is not provided, or if the report is not yet available, questions should be referred to the Head of Communications for the department that contracted the research.

Contact information for all Government of Canada departments and agencies is available in the Government Electronic Directory Services at: http://direct.srv.gc.ca/cgi-bin/direct500/BE. Select a specific organization from the list of departments. Then either:

  • browse through the internal structure of that department to locate its communications office; or
  • choose "Organization" as the search field and enter "communications" as your search term.
